Durga Prasad is a 13-year-old boy from Guwahati. He is one of the million children in our country who are victims of malnourishment. He also hails from an economically backward family. His mother is the sole bread winner of the family and her monthly earnings from doing household work do not suffice. She has been working and earning alone since Durga Prasad's father abandoned the family and moved to a different town a few years ago.

Durga joined school about two years ago. Since then, his health has improved immensely. One of his teachers says, "He's now a healthy boy and comes to school regularly since he gets lunch here. Kids like Durga don't have the privilege of eating such healthy food every day at home. Hence, he also packs some food for home at times for dinner. Akshaya Patra mid-day meal programme has helped such kids resume their studies or join school and attend it regularly. It is a true incentive for educating young minds."
